3. CEPAR Conference Recap:

  • In July, an international conference on 'Population Ageing: Causes, Consequences and Responses' was held in Sydney. Hosted by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research (CEPAR), this 3-day conference brought together academics, policymakers, and practitioners to share the latest research and policy and industry perspectives on the dynamics of the ageing demographic. Recordings of some of the sessions, and slides from most of the sessions, are available here.

4. Healthy Ageing Toolkit:

  • The Healthy Ageing Toolkit is a searchable cohort information repository that includes information about ageing cohort studies across the globe (n=287), designed to support the study of healthy ageing and its trajectories, as well as inequities in healthy ageing.
  • It is a free public resource and designed to help researchers quickly and easily find key information on cohort studies that include their measurements of interest, with the goal of facilitating multi-cohort research and promoting the use of available data; and provide guidance on data collection gaps that can underpin efforts, including policies, concrete actions and planning, and funding to increase data collection in geographical regions with no or limited population-based longitudinal cohort studies.
  • Access the toolkit here.

5. Update from the AIHW Ageing and Aged Care Unit:

  • The GEN aged care website is a comprehensive website for data and information about aged care services in Australia. It reports on the capacity and activity in the aged care system, focusing on the people who use care, their care assessments and the services available. This data is housed in the National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse (NACDC), for which the AIHW is data custodian. We are currently loading the latest financial year of data (2022-23) into the NACDC, with updates scheduled for the GEN website commencing early 2024. We also continue to publish quarterly and annual results from the National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program, along with other reports and data supplied by the Department of Health and Aged Care.
  • Check out some of the AIHW's recent aged care publications: Exploring pathways for younger people living in residential aged care, Unmet needs in aged care: How long did Australians wait for aged care services?, and Transitions to residential aged care after hospital for people living with dementia.
  • For more information about the NACDC, or to request customised data, visit here. You can also subscribe to receive release notifications here.
